The mere fact that there are two camps doesn't hide the fact that while both have their deficiancies, one of them IS closer to the lebanese multicultural dream and the other is not. i'll give my angle on the issue: the M8 coalition and SHN are staunchly anti-jewish. they've even attacked non-israeli jewish targets (AMIA bombing). there's a strong difference between the M14 corruption and political meddling / gerrymandering (a deplorable practice), to hezbollah with its ideology (an existential threat that already caused irreperable damage). the ex-leader of the (ex -) lebanese jewish community described the fall of the community to ynet a few years ago and said hezbollah had a strong part in it. before its arrival, lebanese jews and shiites were actually in quite good terms. if / when all sects can trust a person of another sect to take care of their needs as well, only then will majority voting make sense. but that would be too late for the 18th sect, which, for all practical purposes, is no more than an old memory now.
