I have seen a solution to change to 'opendns' under System preferences > network > advanced tab but I cannot see an option for that.

I believe that whenever somebody use a third-party-DNS they loose privacy as there is a domain search related to the ip-addresss, and in the opendns case, in which you must login, it'd be also related to the login email.
