  • noun A small genus of mosses, typical of the tribe Orthothecieæ, having eightranked close leaves, long-pedicellate, suberect, oval or oblong capsules, and double peristome, the teeth of which are narrowly lanceolate, yellowish, and distinctly articulate. There are three North American species.
