- n. Any of a group of beaked, feathered dinosaurs of the infraorder Oviraptorosauria
Sorry, no etymologies found.
A new oviraptorosaur (Theropoda, Maniraptora) from the Late Cretaceous (Campanian) of Utah.
They include the probable oviraptorosaur Thecocoelurus (represented by just half of a single neck vertebra!) and the tyrannosaur Eotyrannus, named in 2001.
Likewise the oviraptorosaur, the animal with a beak and bony crest on it's head in the middle image, incorporates feathers from research on an earlier oviraptorosaur find in China.
Pinnate feathers and within-feather color patterns first appear in Maniraptora, observed in the striped pinnate tail feathers of the oviraptorosaur
(incidentally, for more on oviraptorosaurs go to Luis Rey and the new oviraptorosaur panoply).
