The work cited that is offered as experimental verification of the theory of borehole palaeotemperatures in the ‘Big integrator’ article is the Chisholm work in Utah which as far as I tell must be JGR-Solid Earth Vol 97(B10) 14155 (1992) and Global and Planetary Change Vol 98, 1992 p269.
I think there is some confusion here over the use of oxygen isotopes in plaeoclimate reconstruction palaeotemperatures and ice volume estimates.
I’m thinking aloud here, always a dangerous thing to do, but joint measurments of CO2 and O2 on ‘old air’ could be a very useful guide to the carbon system and palaeotemperatures for the period we are interested in.
