Definitions

from The Century Dictionary.

  • noun That portion of the load of a power station which coincides with the time of greatest demand. The term is due to the fact that the variation of the load with time is shown graphically by means of a curve, the load-curve, the maximum peak of which indicates the time and amount of the greatest load or peak-load. See load, 8, and peak, n., 4.
