  • noun In Spanish America, the common name of a number of plants bearing fruit which readily adheres to other objects. In Porto Rico it is especially applied to the velvet-bur, Priva echinata, and to Æschynomene Americana, a leguminous plant with jointed pods. In Mexico it is applied to Mentzelia adhærens, a plant belonging to the Loasaceæ, armed with hooked hairs.
