  • n. A genus of simply pinnate polypodiaceous ferns, closely allied to Polystichum, but distinguished by their habit and pinnate, more or less anastamosing venation, and by having the sori disposed in several interrupted rows. There are about 9 species, natives of continental middle America, one of which, P. auriculata, extends northward to Texas and New Mexico.
