  • noun A red amorphous powder, C16H12O2, made by heating phenol with acetic anhydrid and zinc chlorid, or with glacial acetic acid and sulphuric acid. It is turned yellow by acids and red by alkalies. Also called phenacetem and Degener's indicator.
