- noun A large genus of plants, of the order Euphorbiaceæ, type of the tribe Phyllantheæ, characterized by the entire alternate leaves and apetalous monœcious flowers, the male in glomerate clusters and with from two to six stamens, and by the pistil consisting of from three to many carpels, their two-cleft styles not dilated below the apex.
