  • noun A colorless crystalline substance of waxy or fatty appearance, closely allied to cholesterin in composition, found in many different plants, as in peas, beans, lupines, Calabar beans, maize, and the fat oils of the olive, almond, rapeseed, mustard-seed, etc. Also called phytosterol and physosterin.
