- n. In Spain, Abies Picea, the silver fir; in Mexico, the sacred fir, Abies religiosa, a tree growing in the mountains which yields turpentine having a lemonlike odor and a bitter taste. This is used in medicine as a balsam and in the arts as a medium for mixing paints.
