  • A large order of monocotyledonous plants characterized by having the flowers in the axils of dry chaffy scales or glumes, and arranged in spikes or spikelets. It embraces the Poaceæ, or grass family, and the Cyperaceæ, or sedge family. See Glumaceæ.
