  • noun A genus of gasteromycetous fungi of the family Podaxaceæ, which have the peridium more or less elongate and scaly, with a stipe which extends through to the apex of the peridium in the form of a columella. Some 16 species have been described. They occur in the warmer arid portions of the earth. P. carcinomalis is found in South Africa.
