• noun In botany, fertilization by the passage of the pollen-tube through the micropyle: the most common method with flowering plants. In a limited number of plants the pollen-tube enters through the chalazal region (chalazogamy), when the fertilization is said to be basigamous, or rarely through the apex, when the fertilization is termed acrogamous.
