- A family of oceanic or pelagic natatorial birds, named from the genus Procellaria, belonging to the order Longipennes and suborder Tubinares, having tubular nostrils, epignathous bill with discontinuous horny covering, and webbed feet with very small, elevated, functionless or rudimentary hallux, if any; the petrels.
