  • A group of protean or amœbiform rhizopods. having a nucleus and contractile vacuole: divided into Actinophryna and Amœbina, respectively characterized by their monomorphous and polymorphous pseudopods. Sun-animalcules and ordinary proteus-animalcules illustrate the two divisions. See cut under amœba.
