• A suborder of fishes characterized by having a semiheterocercal tail, the bony supports of the dorsal and anal fins equal in number to the finrays, and more than five actinosts in the pectoral and none in the ventral fins. They are the characteristic forms of the Jurassic. The only living species is the North American Amia.
