Hmmm… somehow I get a feeling that you don’t consider descriptions with pseudo-inverse as part of “proper” multivariate statistics… hmmm… the use of the generalized inverse has been a rather standard since at least Rao1973 as it gives nicely the solution to the ordinary least squares regression.
