• noun A genus of primitive schizodont prionodesmacean pelecypods having two-winged, inequivalve, oblique shells, with obscure dentition, amphidetic external ligament, grooved area, and long straight hinge-line. The species range from Silurian to Carboniferous and are particularly abundant in Devonian formations.
