• A family of monogamelian rhizostomatous discomedusans, represented by the genus Rhizostoma.
• They are huge jellyfishes, which may attain a diameter of 3 feet, possess powerful stinging-organs proportionate to their size, and are found chiefly in tropical seas. See cut under acaleph.
