Of the 275 top spellers who gathered in Maryland, the final 13 included two Canadians - Newcombe, from Toronto, and Veronica Penny, of Rockland, Ont., who was eliminated earlier on the word rougeot, misspelling it "rougeau."
Another Canadian, Veronica Penny, couldn't handle "rougeot" and made a ballerina-type wave as she walked away.
