Definitions

from The Century Dictionary.

  • noun A form of mammato-cumulus in which the pocket hanging from the cloud becomes so deep as to resemble a sack or bag, sometimes seeming to reach to the ground. The sack-like appearance is due to the descent of the heavier particles of the cloud, which, however, eventually evaporate into the air without reaching the ground as rain or mist.
