  • A group of heteropterous insects of the gymnocerate series, having the scutellum very large, often covering the whole of the wings and abdomen. It corresponds to the family Pentatomidæ taken in a broad sense, or rather with a superfamily Pentatomoidea, and includes a number of families and more than 4,000 species.
