  • n. In England, a name given to a constructor of lighthouses. In many lighthouses the foundations are entirely beneath the sea and caisson building and other engineering problems, involving the strength of the structure to resist the shock of heavy seas, require the highest class of technical knowledge and judgment on the subject.
