  • noun A subfamily of scorpænoid fishes, typified by the genus Sebastes, having the vertebræ increased in number (12 abdominal, 15 to 19 caudal), and the dorsal commencing over the operculum. The species are Pararctalian, and most numerous in the North Pacific. See rockfish.
