  • noun In furriery, a process in preparing or dressing furs, in which mercury or some of its salts are employed to impart to the fur the property of felting, which it did not previously possess. Also called secreting, and improperly carroting, from the similarity of the manipulation to that of carroting. See carrot, v. t.
