However, this is like saying that the mathematical theory used to count apples harvested from an orchard (addition of natural numbers) is the same as the mathematical theory behind the algorithm the slashcode uses to count the number of comments below threshold (addition of natural numbers).

Second, the stock slashcode search has some serious limitations: (1) search words must have 4 letters or more, which is a serious problem if a user wants to search for GPS, KML, LBS or GML, etc., (2) some words are ommited at MySQL's level, such as 'where', so you could not search for the Where 2.0 conference and (3), the comments themselves are not searchable.

It is not the same as slashdot releasing slashcode, because slashdot isn’t primarily a service, it is a content site – so anyone can run slashcode, but it won’t matter if they don’t have the content.

I find it deliciously ironic that you're using perl to mock php on the same day that the slashcode team apparently decided that they hadn't fucked this site up enough in the past few months.
