  • noun A stout bunch-grass, Stipa Vaseyi, growing in the Rocky Mountains at altitudes of from 5,000 to 6,000 feet. The leaves have a narcotic effect upon horses which feed upon them, causing a drowsiness which lasts several days. After once eating, the victim thenceforth avoids it. The hay does not appear to have any ill effect.
