  • noun A genus of pyrenomycetous fungi having separate perithecia and unicellular dark-colored spores frequently provided with hyaline appendages. The species are numerous and widely distributed. Many are found on dung. S. fimiseda occurs on horse and cow dung in Europe and North America.
