  • n. A valve fitted with a spring, which holds it to its seat except when it is opened by extraneous force.
  • n. A safety-valve with which is connected a spring-balance, graduated to any required number of pounds, and acting as a check on the valve until the determined pressure is attained. See cut under safety-valve.
