  • noun A genus of discomycetous fungi having the ascocarps sunken in the substratum and the disk at first covered, the covering rupturing at maturity and forming angular segments. The spores are filiform, hyaline, and many-celled. Over 70 species are known. They are widely distributed and occur on dead herbaceous or woody stems and branches.
