I can get a SB-400 for about $100 and the sunpak is about $50 for my D40.

Looking at the 2 they seem to have about the same feature set, roughly the same size though the sunpak is heavier.

i got an old sunpak 3600 connected via the pc sync cord, the flash is great, couldn't fault the flash whatsoever but, being a flash, i tend to use it in the night times ... in the dark. only problem is, my camera won't focus!

apart from the canon ex flash series ... what else is out there that is good, cost effective, and user friendly. is the sunpak pz42 good? does sigma offer any decent ones?
