  • noun A form of switch apparatus for light cars such as are used in mines or factories, in which the wheels run on their flanges on a plate for a short distance at the diverging intersection of the tracks: the car can be directed by hand pressure to take one track or the other without movable point- or stub-rails, such as are required in a true switch.
