  • n. A form of union-joint for pipe-fitting work in which the two halves forming the union may be screwed together in line, while the elements on the two pieces of pipe may be out of line. It is done by giving a spherical surface to the two parts which form the tight joint, while each half has an exterior spherical surface which adjusts itself to similar spherical surfaces in the parts of the nut.
