Yes, that fast 1.8 Nikon lens loses two stops and is much darker and slower with the telextender, but I'm able to get significantly larger magnifications with it.

Recently, I added a Vivitar 2x telextender which I got from my brother who wasn't using it to the assembly, and have been pleased with the results.

If anyone doesn't know how I mounted this telextender on the HX1, look back a dozen pages or more in my Flickr album for an explanation.

I used my Raynox DCR-2020PRO, a large 2. 2X telextender, with my steadymount, for these photos and those on the next thread, which have different image-sizes and magnification effects, than these.
