  • A suborder of stegocephalian Amphibia in which the vertebræ are composed of several pieces, usually of the rachitomous type, some-times embolomerous: occurring in rocks from the Carboniferous and the Lower Trias. The basioccipital region is usually, and the carpus and tarsus are always, ossified. The teeth have radially infolded walls.
