If you read comics you know that alot of these unique and epic plots are triggerd by a series of events, witch in most cases are hard to write in a movie script, but if the story is drawn out right and all the major players are there, it can set up the epic plot that make these mega villains so special, look, do you want them to force a way for superman to fight Darkseid, or have him have to face bizarro or toyman and then set up the next movie for the epic character that is Darkseid?? think about it ... yes they do look alike, except thanos looks like he's on holiday at mardi gra.
