I agree with Arthur that photosynthesis and respiration should be omitted from the list of processes that are enabled by the GE, through its creation of a free energy differential between the point at which sunlight is thermalised and IR emitted.

On a subnote I do believe that some other components of the solar energy are absorbed by the surface and air become thermalised and emitted in IR band as the exitation or translation energy decays, so can’t entirely be left out of the equation.
