  • noun A class-name applied, in organic chemistry, to compounds containing the univalent group —CONHC6H4.CH3. They are prepared by the removal of the elements of water from a salt of any of the three toluidines with an organic acid, and correspond exactly to the anilides, which they closely resemble in general properties.
