On the other hand, the common terms morphinomane and toxicomane (note spellings) not only "merit official use" but have been in the language for quite some time (ca 1900 and 1920 respectively), as have numerous other nouns -- e.g. mégalomane, cocaïnomane, héroïnomane, éthéromane, etc. -- ending in the similarly pronounced but very different Greek-rooted suffix - mane.
