  • noun A turreted shell of certain ammonoid cephalopods, so called because of its resemblance to the shell of the ammonoid genus Turrilites. Such shells are developed as phylogerontic stages in the evolution of various races of ammonoids, and are specially common in the Upper Cretaceous formations.
