  • An alluring definition, but most statisticians would choose the explanation (attributed to Kimball and popularized by George Box): getting a correct answer to the wrong question. In experimental work, the implication is that one has designed the experiment according to a faulty problem specification, so that the data obtained shed little useful light on the actual question of interest.
