The question is how nations can act as real nations, in their own interest rather than being roped into serving whatever the American government decides is in America's interest. then why talk about it? do it. quit the IMF, World Bank and the WTO. the simple reason is that they can't. glut or no glut, the $ is the safe haven currency, although, with the gyrations at the end of the Bush term and the new, crazier, gyrations under Obama, THAT'S what's making other countries consider the unconsiderable. the current gov't confuses a banking crisis with something being wrong with the whole system. this falls under Emmanuel's theory that "no crisis should go to waste" to make social and political change. if they would stay on task and fix the banks, companies like GM and Chrysler going Chapter 11 would be manageable.
