Personally, I think this work is a direct descendent of the '90s soft-punk movements Riotgrrl, emo and the subsequent '00s punk-craft movement, and in this sense is actually quite unsubversive - especially against the backdrop of a city like Seattle, which, along with Olympia, Portland, and the rest of the Northwest, gave birth to most of the above.
