  • noun A wiry creeping perennial rush-grass, Sporobolus orientalis, with short rigid leaves and spreading panicles. It is native to the usar tracts of northern India, often constituting the entire vegetation. It endures saline and alkali soils and affords a supply of fodder where other plants cannot exist.
