  • noun An alkaloid contained in the leaves of Adhatoda vasica Nees, from the Panjab. It is intensely poisonous to the lower forms of animal life, but has no appreciable effect on normal animals of higher orders. The natives use the leaves of the plant as a remedy in affections of the respiratory organs.
