• noun A colorless alkaloid, C₁₆H₂₀O₈N₈.3H₂O, contained in the young shoots of the vetch, the clover, and the gourd, in hazel and pine pollen, in germinated barley, and in the sugar-beet. It crystallizes in slender, lustrous, microscopic prisms.
