  • I tried to boot regularly and then added "vesa" to the login line and got the same result.

  • I then tried the "vesa" driver, which did get me to a terrible desktop, but within five minutes it froze the entire desktop requiring a reboot.

  • I also make all PCLOS remasters with "vesa" bootcode

  • I usually bypass the issue by switching to the fglrx or vesa drivers, but right now I want a fix, largely because adding a line saying Driver "vesa" in the appropriate spot of my xorg. conf isn't working (something about no suitable vesa modes found).

  • The nwer 'intel' graphical server does not work well with older cards, you need to (once fully updated) install the x11-driver-video-i810 package via synaptic then MANUALLY edit (as root) the xorg. conf line that reads: Driver "vesa" to Driver "i810" ten save this configuration and then restart X by logging out this will then get the native resolution in place fo rthe older intel cards.

  • Note that if I'd run the installation with the 'vesa' kernel parameter, it would probably have worked in graphical mode and set up the VESA driver out of the box too, so if you're installing on a P, probably best do that.

  • So I tried first the safe "vesa" option; worked perfectly and I was then able to install the needed ATI driver

  • If you can't, perhaps you're using the "vesa" driver, in which case try enabling the shadow framebuffer.
