It was several cubes away, and we heard it loud and clear as a bell, only it was a whisper. It was such a contradiction, all our brains just stopped for a minute.

Reminds me of when my elementary school principal was trying to hush us at a school assembly. Holding up a pin he said, "I want you so quiet you can hear this pin drop." Curious to know if this was possible, we stifled, and he dropped the pin. We heard it in every corner of the room!
